Archery, the art of using a bow to shoot arrows at a target, is one of the oldest precision sports still practiced today. Here at Shannon River Adventure, we use traditional long bows and straw targets set on tripods. Our archery areas are open and spacious, and the arrows used have flat blunt ends, thus ensuring total safety, so  you can build your skills in a safe comfortable environment.

We have indoor and outdoor facilities and, with the help of our trained instuctors, archery can be a fun and competitive activity. Along with basic target practise, we introduce games, including burst the balloon, to ensure a challenging and fun experience. Learn how to shoot a bow correctly and accurately, learn about stance and positioning. Thus, while also learning a new skill, archery can improve hand/eye coordination and motor/muscle memory.

This sport has become very popular with budding 'archers' of all ages. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat, while in modern times, its main use is that of a competitive sport and recreational activity.

The bow is thought to have been invented in the later Paleolithic or early Mesolithic periods and eventually replaced the spear-thrower as the main tool for launching shafted projectiles. It wasn't until the 1840s that archery evolved from into a modern sport and by the 1920s the commercial development of new forms of the bow were introduced by professional engineers. The new forms of bow included the 'Recurve' bow, which we use here at Shannon River Adventure.

Archery at Shannon River Adventure can be a stand alone activity or part of a multi-activity session taken by groups such as: corporate and sports team, school tours and transition year outings, kids camps, birthday parties. We can provide packages to suit all requirements. Please contact us for more information.
