“Tommy, Lara and crew were so welcoming and professional. There was a really positive vibe around the centre and on the walks. The walks and trip on the Shannon provided beautiful scenery and the natural beauty of the island was breath taking.
Camping on Rabbit Island is a must do experience for anyone and definite highlight of our stay. The walks were well organised and it was obvious great thought, care and research was put into picking out the most scenic routes. We would highly recommend the centre to any school and can’t wait to go back!”

Gaisce has become synonymous with secondary schools over the last 20 years. Many schools have students working towards Bronze, Silver and Gold. Here, at Shannon River Adventure, we can help with your physical Recreation and Adventure journey requirements, be it a two-day/one night expedition for the Bronze award, or a three-day/two night adventure for the Silver. For the Gold Award, please enquire within.
Begin with on-site training to include: introduction to the Canadian Canoe Raft; basic paddling of a Canadian Canoe Raft; map reading and journeying; personal expedition gear and packing for an expedition.
There will also be training in the various components of camp craft to include: erecting tents; lighting camp fires; lighting of and cooking on fireboxes; “Leave No Trace” principles.
The journey element of the program will encompass either walking country roads & trails or a canoe-raft journey on River Shannon waterways. Both journeys will end the day at the island camping site.
Participants will be involved in setting up camp, cooking on fireboxes, and will have some freedom to explore the island. There will be structured night-time forest games.
